I did my laundry – in Innsbruck 🧺🇦🇹

Innsbruck – a town with so much to offer, yet in which I did so little. After my time in Switzerland I was headed towards Eastern Europe, so Innsbruck was a stop on the way over. The city had a vibrant and modern atmosphere, full of students and young people. There were a lot of shops, cafes and bars. This gave the city a wonderful atmosphere.

Upon arrival, it was the night of the highly anticipated NZ vs Ireland rugby game so I rallied up some people to go out and watch it. We found an Irish pub (dangerous I know) and squeezed our way in. I was one of maybe 5 kiwis in the entire pub – who knew there were so many Irish fans in Austria. I was there with an American, Australian, two Englishmen and a Japanese girl – the support behind me wasn’t exactly NZ driven. It was a nerve wracking couple of hours but the boys in black pulled through, it felt like even more of an accomplishment as one of the few kiwis there!

I spent the better part of a whole day trying to do my laundry. Who knew it could be so complicated. First I had to download an app. Then my wash cycle, which was set to 59 minutes took 136 minutes. That is 2 hours and 16 minutes, for a wash cycle?! This left me slightly concerned for the dry cycle. Fortunately, that only took just over an hour. But that was the better part of the morning gone, so I retreated to my dorm where I managed to do some planning. I got some hostels and trains booked for the upcoming week. I didn’t do much, but it was an enjoyable, relaxing day. Especially after my busy times in Switzerland.

I had one more day in Innsbruck, and I decided to go to the zoo. While there were many other things I could’ve done, hike or take a cable car, I had done so much of that recently I wanted to do something different. This zoo is one of the highest altitude ones in Europe, and features mostly animals from the region and altitude. It was alright but definitely not that spectacular. There were a lot of large birds and farm animals? If in Innsbruck, I would probably recommend skipping the zoo.

And that pretty much sums up my time in Innsbruck. While it sounds pretty average, I must say that you could have a great time in this city there is plenty to do, but I used it as a time to rest. It turns out that this was much needed before my upcoming week in Budapest.
